About Canto

Canto is an online annotation tool which has been developed to allow researchers to curate the genetic and molecular data from their publications for inclusion in public biological databases. Originally created for the fission yeast community, Canto is a generic tool that can be readily configured for use with other organisms and other databases.

Canto is developed as part of the PomBase project, which provides a model organism database for the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. PomBase is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is run by a consortium comprising the [http://www.cam.ac.uk/ University of Cambridge], the [http://www.ebi.ac.uk/ European Bioinformatics Institute] and University College London.
