I'm a 20 years old student from France.
I'm currently studying in Polytech Nice-Sophia of the University of Nice, I just finish my 3rd year of an engineering program in computer science.
I plan to specialize myself during the 5th year in the HMI (Human Machine Interface), focused on web interface.
GMOD is a website providing resources, documentation and tutorials to large community of users around the world. The main problem is that the quality of these resources are variable according to a survey of your community (2013 GMOD Community Survey. (You can see http://gmod.org/answers-1.html for information).
After some emails with A. Ireland, she told me that a feedback plugin for MediaWiki could help, so visitors can rate and suggest enhancements for the resource. All existing MediaWiki extensions require users to be logged in; this new plugin would be available to all visitors.
A. Ireland also suggested that we could improve the user experience further by making MediaWiki extensions to embed content from iAnn, Storify and Nabble. As JavaScript cannot be added to wiki pages, this content needs to be added via a MediaWiki extension.
GMOD is a wiki website which would benefit from a new “skin”, i.e. a new interface design. It’s the image that will stay in the head of the visitors, and spending time on design could make the life of visitors and contributors easier. And, if it’s done right, the skin could be released for other MediaWikis and improve the web experiences of a lot of users !
